Energy Minister meets with Minister-President of German Federal Land Brandenburg
On April 6, 2009, Energy Minister of Belarus Alexander Ozerets met with Minister-President of German Federal Land Brandenburg Matthias Platzeck.

The German side was informed about the performance of the energy industry, short- and long-term development and reform programmes.

During the meeting the sides discussed the priority areas of cooperation between Belarus and Germany in the energy area.

The Belarusian side expressed the readiness to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy area and discuss the opportunity of involving German companies in investment projects in alternative energy. Any form of cooperation can be applied (including attracting tied technical loans for five to eight years).

Vestas Blades Deutschland GmbH, one of Europe’s biggest producers of wind equipment, was offered to take part in the project to construct wind parks in the Republci of Belaurs. The minister suggested making greater use of the credit lines opened by the German banks for the Republic of Belarus.

In conclusion Alexander Ozerets expressed hope that “the visit will give an additional impetus to the further development of the mutually beneficial cooperation and will contribute to strengthening of friendly links between the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Land Brandenburg, and with Germany on the whole”.

Matthias Platzeck expressed gratitude for the meeting and showed the interest in the development of the economic relations between the countries. The Minister-President said that Belarus has a great potential to implement the projects using hydraulic power resources and other renewables. He focused on the possibility of cooperating in the wind energy area at first. “We have a great experience in this area and are ready to share it with Belarus. Today 30% of electric energy generated in Brandenburg is wind energy. By 2020, 90% of the energy will be received from alternative resources,” Matthias Platzeck said.

The two parties agreed to make their decisions in the shortest possible time taking into account all the interests and possibilities of the two sides.
